Romans vs CarthaginiansPosted by Jake Woodnutt on Thu 6th Oct 2016 @ 12:59 pm
We were lucky enough to see the very impressive Romans vs Carthaginians festival in Cartagena last month. I had heard of General Hannibal and his Elephants, crossing the alps with 100,000 infantry, 12,000 horseman and, they reckon, about 40 elephants to attack Rome. We learned that he was actually from Cartagena. His and his army's efforts marching to attack Rome left Cartagena vulnerable and defenceless. This week of festivities was about exactly that.

Pigging day. Spent this afternoon up at the pigs feeding and making new straw beds for them all. Even though the weather is bad, as my dad always day... 'There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing'

Struggling to be creativePosted by Jake Woodnutt on Thu 4th Feb 2016 @ 9:31 pm
Beautiful day, but back to same old routine. Wake up, go for run, feed the animals and then to work. Founding this project difficult, so much routine in my life at the moment, bad weather and same scenes. Struggling to be creative.
Winter Pub lifePosted by Jake Woodnutt on Thu 4th Feb 2016 @ 8:39 am
For a part time job, in the evenings I work at the Georgian House Hotel covering the evening shifts. Winter on Alderney is generally very quiet and gives us all a time to wind down, play card of dice games and chill.
Who let the animals out Posted by Jake Woodnutt on Sun 31st Jan 2016 @ 2:07 pm
Have been up at the pig farm more and more the last few days so the animals have been my subjects. Always photogenic and never complain about having a camera in their face. The light has been really nice at about 4:30PM when I go up to feed the pigs before work, some cloud making the sun not too harsh and creating sharp shadows. Also meaning I can turn the contrast up to create effect.
Just a quicky snap of my yoga mat before I had to run off to work.
Suns out Posted by Jake Woodnutt on Fri 29th Jan 2016 @ 3:40 pm
What a stunning day! Very happy walking around in just a t-shirt, little teaser saying that summer is on its way. One thing I think I forgot to mention about this project. The equipment.
I am using a Canon 5D Mark ii camera with my 50mm 1.4 Prime lens, and that is it.
The 50mm being a prime lens means no zoom, Just full control of depth of field and shutter speed. I love this lens, and challenging myself by having to move, Get closer or take a step back. Just to get the frame filled how I want it.
Im enjoying this project more and more!

Better Light, Better vibes Posted by Jake Woodnutt on Thu 28th Jan 2016 @ 5:47 pm
Felt a bit better about todays photos, Already I am finding myself LOOKING. LOOKING to be creative on the spot is harder then it sounds. Especially after not having taken many photographs over the past few months. Today the weather was nicer and managed to get out in the garden between jobs and while waiting for the kettle to boil.

As most of my work I am doing at the moment is computer based I am lacking subjects. Human subjects. Tomorrow I aim to find some living subjects who I can try and capture doing what humans do. So if you see me out and about... SMILE FOR THE CAMERA !
Day one, harder than I thought. Posted by Jake Woodnutt on Wed 27th Jan 2016 @ 9:28 pm
50-50 day 1. Been a year since I was previously doing this challenge. Now living in a place I have grown up in, and photographed best part of my carreer. When I then have to LOOK for shapes, lines, and trying to be creative on the spot without it being a job or have planned a shoot. I found it really difficult starting this project but this is what this is all about, it's to get my head back in the game and get the creative snaps flowing. Slow start but going to get into the swing of things soon!

Day 15.

Seems to be a pattern in the weather here... Sunshine in the morning, then tipping it down in time for me waiting for the bus to get the DART home.
